The record since

  • 8 Jul 26 No. 8 · revised to 10%
Iran's own state broadcaster said the Wedyan was targeted precisely for using the Omani route — the exact follow-on strike this call bet against, now confirmed within a day of the call being made.

What would overturn it

Another missile or projectile strike on a vessel using the Omani route within the window would overturn this; continued strikes confined to inside the strait itself, or no further strikes, would confirm it.

The verdict

Miss  Resolved 10 Aug 26.

On Jul 13, Iranian cruise missiles struck the UAE-flagged tankers al-Bahiya and Mombasa while transiting the NCAGS-approved southern corridor in Omani territorial waters -- the Omani bypass route itself -- killing one crew member, with further strikes on vessels on the Omani side of the strait on Jul 20 and near Limah, Oman on Jul 21.

The call underestimated that Iran would keep targeting the internationally-brokered bypass/detour lane itself as leverage in the Hormuz negotiations, rather than sparing it as a safe corridor.

As logged at issue

Iran will likely refrain from a follow-on strike specifically targeting a vessel using the Omani bypass route within 30 days, even as the broader ceasefire stays fragile; another hit on a vessel using that route would overturn the call.
