Austria dismantles Vienna-based sanctions-evasion network that supplied Russia's missile and fighter-jet industry
So what? The eight-country routing chain — spanning Gulf and Asian transshipment hubs alongside EU members Poland and Lithuania — is a template for the layered front-company networks customs targeting units need to map, not just the single Vienna node that got caught. Council of Europe warns five EU states their planned migrant ‘return hubs’ risk violating rights law
So what? A formal rights-body warning aimed at five specific governments, issued just as the EU's own Parliament clears the legal path for offshore detention, signals a jurisdictional fight is coming between Strasbourg's human-rights machinery and national return-hub plans before a single facility opens. Global human-trafficking sweep nets 1,024 arrests, more than 2,000 victims identified
What? A 59-country operation across five continents, coordinated by Europol and Interpol and co-led by Austria and Romania with command centers in Skopje and Rio de Janeiro, produced 1,024 arrests — 334 specifically for trafficking, the rest for related offenses — and identified more than 2,070 trafficking victims from 45 countries, opening 465 new investigations and uncovering roughly 80 document-fraud cases tied to sexual exploitation, forced criminality, and forced-begging networks.
