So what?  A frontline NATO ally's own defense minister acknowledging he can't confirm troop levels, paired with an EU ambassador's blunt admission that Washington itself hasn't decided, is a more honest signal of eastern-flank uncertainty than any reassurance statement would be. If the rotation gap persists into autumn without a replacement force, expect the Baltic states to press harder for their own capability spending rather than wait on Washington to fill it.

So what?  A tunnel, rather than the surface pushes and fence-cutting Lithuania has dealt with since 2021, means Minsk-facilitated smuggling networks are now investing in fixed, reusable infrastructure instead of one-off crossing attempts. Watch whether border guards find a second tunnel elsewhere along the frontier in the coming weeks, since a single instance is a one-off but a pattern would argue for permanent underground-detection sensors rather than the patrols currently in use.
