So what?  Paying for border work on Haftar's side deepens Europe's reliance on an authority it does not recognize, and it hands Benghazi leverage, because departures from eastern Libya can be turned up as easily as down. The lean is that leaders back the destabilization framework in their conclusions, while the real test is whether departures from eastern Libya fall in the months after the money lands.

So what?  An attack of this precision inside an LNA security stronghold is a direct hit on Haftar's own security credentials, and Libya analysts including Jalel Harchaoui assess it will disrupt or delay the US-brokered east-west reunification track, which depends on security guarantees the LNA can credibly offer. Watch whether the LNA names a permanent successor quickly, signaling institutional confidence, or leaves the post under an acting chief, signaling uncertainty about who else might be a target.

So what?  A functioning joint force on the Libya-Chad border, if it holds together, gives outside partners a second land chokepoint — alongside the existing Mediterranean crossing points — to work with on interdicting networks moving people and contraband north through Libya. Watch whether the joint force reports its first actual interdiction, since Haftar-aligned announcements on Sahel cooperation have outpaced operational results before.
