Haiti’s 13 December elections are postponed indefinitely as the UN reports nearly 1.5 million displaced

Illegal ImmigrationHaiti
So what?  With no election date and no sign of the gangs being displaced, the political route out of the crisis is closed for now, which keeps the pressure to leave in place for Haitians. With the economy also set to contract for a seventh year, the push factors behind departures by sea and across the Dominican border are unlikely to ease. A new election date would be the first sign the political track is reviving.

UN Security Council renews Haiti sanctions as an estimated 270,000 to 500,000 illegal weapons circulate

Transnational Organized CrimeHaiti
So what?  Enforcement rests on ports, borders and banks, and the panel itself says the embargo leaks, so the renewal changes little at the frontier. Firearms and ammunition will most likely keep reaching Haitian gangs by sea, which makes arms interdictions at Caribbean transshipment ports the signal to watch.
