Watch whether the last open route into the city stays passable — its closure, not the hunger figures themselves, is the sharper signal that displacement toward Chad and Egypt is imminent.

So what?  A war more than a thousand miles away is now reaching Sudan's food supply through the same Gulf shipping lanes that carry its fertilizer and fuel, layering a new external shock onto an already-collapsing aid system rather than a one-off. Falling rations in displacement camps are the indicator to watch, since camps that lose food access are what convert a slow famine into a faster push toward the Chad and Egypt border crossings.
