Watch whether Thailand pairs this with concrete border or compound-raid action, since that is what would actually move victims out of captivity rather than just raise the political profile of the issue.

So what?  Thailand extending full-honors treatment to a junta leader most of ASEAN still treats as illegitimate is a genuine diplomatic opening — if it holds, it gives Bangkok leverage to negotiate the border-security and anti-scam cooperation it actually needs, in exchange for the legitimacy Naypyidaw wants. But normalizing the relationship without concrete deliverables on the displacement crisis risks Thailand absorbing more of Myanmar's spillover — refugees, trafficking, cyberscam operations — without matching pressure on the junta to address root causes.

So what?  If Bangkok follows through, the sudden reversal of a legal export channel would push existing cannabis volumes back into the same concealment methods traffickers already use for harder narcotics — parcel post, air cargo, passenger couriers — so customs and postal-screening programs should expect a volume shift rather than a volume drop, at least while the legal supply chain unwinds.

So what?  Renewed enforcement pressure at a major Southeast Asian transit hub can shift concealment methods and departure points, a signal that overseas advisory-program screening on long-haul routes historically feeding onward smuggling toward North America will want to weigh.
