So what?  The "stress test passed" framing is really an argument for the status quo — modest money, no structural EU mechanism change — which leaves the harder fight over a formal Schengen-suspension tool unresolved rather than settled. The more consequential thread for screening is the criminal-exploitation review: if Spain confirms even one case, it hands Italy's suspension camp evidence it currently lacks to force a bloc-wide response.

So what?  A fellow EU government publicly floating a Schengen suspension against a partner state, rather than just criticizing its migration policy, signals the bloc's internal border-control consensus is fraying under a single day's crisis in a way that could set a precedent other member states invoke against each other. Watch whether the Spain-Morocco return agreement actually moves people back within days rather than becoming another unenforced promise, since a return deal that stalls on the ground would keep the numbers Rome is citing to justify a Schengen challenge from coming back down.
