Houthi strikes on Saudi airports in Abha and Riyadh kill three, as the Yemen war widens into civil aviation

National SecuritySaudi ArabiaYemen
So what?  Since the flash, the story has moved from a claimed attack to confirmed foreign civilian deaths at hub airports, which raises the odds that airlines reroute or cut Saudi flights. That would squeeze Gulf transit capacity used by labor migrants and Horn of Africa travelers, and push more of them onto land and sea routes. A Saudi flight suspension notice would confirm that read.

Saudi Arabia strikes Houthi-held Hodeidah, breaking a 2022 truce, as a Houthi missile sets the Jazan refinery ablaze

National SecuritySaudi ArabiaYemen
So what?  Saudi Arabia joining the fight directly, rather than staying a target absorbing Houthi strikes, turns a two-front U.S.-Iran and Houthi-Bab el-Mandeb war into a three-front regional conflict with an additional actor able to escalate on its own timeline. Expect war-risk insurance on Red Sea and Gulf routings to keep climbing regardless of what happens at Hormuz, since Riyadh's entry adds a second unpredictable escalation path insurers now have to price independently.
